Horary astrology has ancient roots, was used to answer important questions when only kings had personal natal charts. Only the Magi, the ancient wise men and astrologers, knew the birth data knew the birth data of kings before most kings could even read and write. Horary astrology is still important today for answering questions, and the birth data of the people involved is still not required.
Remember back in 2003 when the Kobe Bryant scandal erupted? A desk clerk in a famous hotel near Aspen where Kobe was staying accused him of raping her. My advanced astrology class and I wanted to investigate the situation. So we ran an horary chart to answer four related questions: 1) did he rape her; 2) would he be prosecuted; 3) would he go to jail; 4) what really happened in a classical she-said, he-said situation.
For each question you must have at least three yes or three no results before you can say the question is answered. so we tackled each question individually and received resounding and definite answers. Did he rape her? No. Would he be prosecuted? No. Would he go to jail? No.
So what did happen? First, we took the horary chart and treated it as an incident chart. It indicated that the desk clerk was not telling the whole truth; neither was Kobe. The next step was to glean from the newspaper and sports magazine accounts the time the desk clerk said she went to Kobe's room and used it to run another incident chart showed what was going on at that time, in that place. It definitely showed that the clerk went to his room with sex and money on her mind -- even if it wasn't her primary reason for going up there. Maybe any young woman would have fantasized about having sex with such a dynamic young man, and what that might lead to, even though he was married. I don't know. I don't know. I do know Kobe sized the moment up as a sexual opportunity, and acted upon it. The events played out so that both of them achieved their thoughts. They had sex, and she eventually settled for an undisclosed amount of money to drop the whole thing.
Undoubtedly there were other factors which figured into what happened that night, but we had enough to give us definite answers to the questions we asked.
Next time I will begin to explore a local incident in which an 8-year-old-boy was accused of murdering his father and the man who rented a room from him.

Living in Balance
Okay, I admit it, the astrologer was not paying attention to her own personal astrology.
Transiting Mars was in hard angles both to my natal sixth house and to my natal Uranus in Gemini. We're talking about a possible accident in which my ribs would be injured.
So what happened? I'm raising a young orange tomcat who is absolutely adorable and a stink pot at the same time. When my granddaughter Nicole gave him to me for Christmas she provided a small open litter box and set it up in what she calls "her" bathroom in my house. She even put carpet on the floor one year. Young Dennis the Menace Cat has a ball digging in his litter box, flinging the litter everywhere. I swear he has hind legs as strong as a jackrabbit!
I do not like walking on cat litter, so I put newspaper on the floor under his box, leaving it extending 6-8 inches all around. Then I went in that bathroom looking for my blow dryer which Nicole had borrowed. I was thinking about getting my hair dried instead of how slick newspaper can be when you have 2 or 3 thicknesses of it, or that when you get some cat litter in between the layers they act like tiny ball bearings. I slipped on the newspaper and pitched head first into the bathtub, striking my ribs against the edge of the tub. Ouch!!
Nothing was broken, but those ribs really hurt. So much so that I haven't been able to sit in front of the computer to post to this blog until today. Mars and Uranus are both associated with accidents. When they are square each other, it's almost a certainty. So shame on me for not taking the time to check the transiting planets against my natal chart. I know better. No excuses. Just the circumstance that I was anxious to start writing on my book. Go to the Birthing A Book blog on blogspot.com or to my astrologyandselfhealing website and click on that blog which is my journal about writing this book.
No excuses, just an explanation of why I haven't made a posting recently.
Do you know what the three parameters for maintaining your balance are?
Your inner ear, your eyes and your feet. If you have a cold or a sinus infection the proper operation of your inner ear can be impaired. If you wear bifocals your sight is often impaired, causing you to stumble. If you are diabetic the feeling in your feet is impaired which can also cause to to stumble. If you're fortunate enough to have all three conditions then caution is your watchword. Be careful, pay attention to where you're putting your feet.
I know that sounds like a pain in the butt, but let me assure you that pain (or inconvenience) is much less than having your ribs protest loudly at almost every move you make -- for weeks. Look at it as the importance of living in the now, being conscious of everything you are doing now instead of thinking about either past or future events.

Elvis Presley's Astrology Chart
CHART OF A LEGEND.
Twenty-nine degrees of Scorpio on the Ascendant. He was destined to be a sex symbol. Those smouldering eyes of his shout Scorpio rising to anyone familiar with astrology. Pluto, the ruler of his chart, is in Cancer in the eight house of sex, death, transformation and BIG MONEY. Sandwiched between the South Node of the Moon in Leo and the Vertex (the destiny point) in Cancer, Pluto indicates tremendous magnetic power of a sensitive, healing nature which can earn him untold amounts of money through residuals.
But since Pluto is in his own house (the 8th), it can also mean a great transformation in Elvis' life. Hold onto the thought of his life being transformed for a moment while I follow through with the influence of Pluto in the 8th, which indicates powerful problems with both sex and drugs. Gargantuan amounts of money and women throwing themselves at him, tearing his clothes off him to get to him, would transform any young man's life, right? Of course it would. Jupiter in Scorpio, trine Pluto and the Vertex, AND in a karmic angle to Venus which is in the 29th degree of Capricorn spells out the excessive sex which surrounded him. But keep in mind that Jupiter naturally rules Sagittarius and the 9th house of spirituality, which could bring about a great transformation in his life -- and did.
Then Chiron is in the 7th house of relationships. In her book on Chiron, Melanie Rineheart points out that Rudolph Valentino also had Chiron in the 7th (all those "others" going crazy over him). The addictive problems become more evident as we take into account the Moon in Pisces and Neptune conjunct the Midheaven.
Elvis' chart shows both powerful, magical strengths and devastating weaknesses. He is quoted as saying that he had always been misunderstood by everybody but his Mama. Neptune on the Midheaven will do that for you, especially when it's trine the Sun and Mercury. The individual gets lost in the myths and legends.
Once he got into his spiritual studies, Elvis firmly believed he had a special mission in this life. Which he did. The Nodes of the Moon tell the story. The South Node (the emphasis of past lives pertaining to this one) in Leo in the 8th house yet on the cusp of the 9th. His public didn't dub him "The King" for nothing. This is not only an indication of royal past lives, but also lives in which he was a powerful spiritual leader.
The North Node (direction this life is to take) in Aquarius in the 2nd house of values yet on the cusp of the 3rd. He was meant to shake up some deep-seated values by means of an innovative, off-the-wall, electrifying style of entertainment. This is defined by the multiple T-Squares formed by the oppositions of the Nodes and of Pluto vs the stellium of Sun/Mercury/Venus, all focusing through Uranus in Aries in the 5th house of entertainment and reacting in the 11th house.
The love flowing between Elvis and his audiences was palatable. Music was not only one of his deepest loves. It was his job. (Taurus on the cusp of the 6th house, Libra on the 11th. both ruled by Venus in the 2nd -- how he earned his living day-by-day.)
The creative genius depicted by the karmic triangle connecting Venus, Neptune and Uranus, augmented by the trine from Neptune to the Sun amd Mercury, and the sextile from Jupiter to the Sun and Mercury, is unmistakeable. The Saturn in Aquarius/Moon in Pisces conjunction sextile Uranus in Aries and inconjunct Pluto in Cancer, is just as obvious. Public uproar (both scorn and acclaim) for setting the establishment on its ear. There wasn't meant to be much middle ground concerning Elvis. He attracted both love and hate -- sometimes from the same people.
Chiron in the 7th house trine Venus shows not only the frenzied love of his fans, but the wounding he received from relationships, and the wounding he gave to others through relationships. Venus in the karmic 29th degree indicates his soul's plan was for him to heal any number of wounded relationships from the past. He tried to do that. He took on the challenge of healing the lives of his parents (Chiron square the Saturn/Moon conjunction) as well as many extended family members and friends he considered as family.
But he was too wounded and vulnerable himself. Perhaps if his mother had not died on August 14, 1958, things would have been different. She had always been the person he loved most, the foundation of his emotional support system. His father, Vernon, is quoted as saying that Elvis simply couldn't stand for anything to be wrong with his mama. "It wouldn't matter if it were me, but he can't stand anything hurtin' his mama."
With her gone, Elvis truly felt alone no matter how many people he surrounded himself with -- rudderless on the stormy seas of the unreal life of Elvis Presley. Did he ever get over his mother's death? No. He spent the remaining nineteen years and two days of his life looking into the faces of every young woman he met, searching for a replacement for his mother.

Mercury Retrograde
Mercury will be retrograde through January 16th. This is not meant to scare anyone, but from what I've been hearing lately people tend to fear this passage of Mercury. I'd like to clear that up.
It is true that during the retrograde motion of Mercury outer communications have a tendency to go awry. People misunderstand what others are saying, or writing, if contracts are involved. Missives -- letters, packages, emails, phone calls -- get misdirected or lost. Communications go haywire. But we need not fear this, just plan for it.
Retrograde motion of any planet (when it looks as though the planet is moving backward) is the time when we are best served if we direct the energy of that planet inward toward our own hearts, instead of outward to the universe.
What does this mean, in plain English? Using Mercury as an example, we communicate with ourselves. We meditate and pray about the way we want our lives to be. What do we really want the people around us to hear us say? What, exactly, do we want a business contract to encompass? Take the time to work on it carefully, ensuring that it conveys exactly what you mean for it to.
I always try not to sign any contracts during the retrograde motion of Mercury, not to have any serious discussions with those important to me, not to jump into anything on the spur of the moment. However, life has a way of interferring with the best laid plans. Whenever that happens, don't panic, slow down, consider everything carefully (pretend for a moment that you're a Virgo who examines every tiny detail before being satified with any situation.) Another way of saying that is to honor the Virgo part of yourself -- we all have one even if it tends to drive us (and everybody else) nuts at time.
Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo. So during retrograde motion when the Gemini functions tend to go haywire, move into Virgo mode, and things will operate much more smoothly for you.

Introduction -- missed cue
Don't ask me how or why, but the first entry I wrote for this blog which posted 12/29/09, has gone away -- disappeared into the ethers. So I thought I'd repeat it. Then the next one makes more sense.
My name is Annabelle Lee McCafferty, and I'm going to talk about two subjects near and dear to my heart -- astrology and healing. I've been involved with both for most of my life, just as I have been with ways in which to combine the two to help people.
Have you heard of Pythagoras? He was a Greek mathematician and philosopher who lived between 580 B.C. - 500 B.C. He founded and operated the Pythagorean Mystery Schools which were the most famous metaphysical schools at that time. They linked the body of a person with his/her mind and soul.
Mathematics and astrology were two of the most important subjects. A student had to understand mathematics before he could understand astrology, and Pythagoras believed no one could be a true physician without being an astrologer. Why? Because all the important facts of a person's life were shown in that person's natal chart. The secret was to know how to read it to elicit those hundreds of bits of information as well as the intuition and understanding to corelate them properly.
It is no wonder that true astrologers spend their lives studyinf their own charts as well as the charts of anyone who will give them their birth data: the day, time and place on which they were born. So they continue learning how to help people. Many astrologers are also health professionals -- always seeking ways to help their patients/clients become healthier and more whole. I am one of those.
